So how come there's no milltek non res option?

Post by Holmax » Mon Nov 09, 2009 1:39 pm

I went to see Andy at Autotechnica in Hull over the weekend about ordering a millteck for my shiny new toy.
He had a look on their computer and there is no non res version for the v10.
Does anyone know why? Is it plenty loud enough with resonators compared to the stock exhaust?
I'm keen to know from anyone who has fitted millteks to their v10? Does it increase the volume much over standard?

I've got one on order via the forum bulk buy. It should be happening very soon and I will report back. Having said this there are quite a lot of members who have had them fitted and the response is pretty good.
I would be surprised if Milltek don't come out with the non res pretty soon.

I'm told (especially on the Avant) it's very boomy even with resonated !!

I'm having mine fitted next week now so have spoken to a few people with them in recent weeks (had hoped to have it done this week for the Rolling Road day Sat but waiting on the black oval tips).

Apparently even with the res you struggle to hear the stereo below 1800rpm as the base "clashes", at tickover it is very loud... to quote "the ground shakes and the car seems like it wants to eat you!" "you will get noticed in traffic etc"

Think the res system will do me!! :D

Blimey Nudenut, that sounds serious, excuse the awful pun. My garage has a party wall with the neighbours!
I used to have a Ducati with Termignoni race pipes, it was loud enough to loosen teeth. Early mornings I would push it down the road and start it up on the main road to avoid unsocial behaviour stuff. I can hardly do that with a two ton RS6!
Oh well, has anyone got any experience dealing with ASBOS!?

I've just been on to Andy at autotechnica, he's spoken to millteck and they have told him that they are pretty loud even with resonators. They also said that there is no difference in loudness between the quad or the twin ovals. The only difference is that the quads give a slightly higher pitched sound. They have also said to him that if I am unhappy with the volume they would be willing to have a look at it if I am willing to take it down to millteks workshop. Can't say fairer than that.
After a bit of deliberation and changing my mind ten times on the phone, I have opted for the twin ovals. Not as sexy looking as the quads imho, but I think they might sound better, or will the quads? or will the ovals? or will the quads?
I'm beginning to think it would be better if they hadn't given me a choice!
Whats everyone else gone for?
I should hopefully be getting them week comencing 23rd November.

Ha Ha, I've just called my dealer again and opted for the quads. They look too dam sexy and I think I would probably regret not going for them. It was one of the things I loved on my e63 amg.
Here's a pic from millteks website:

And a picture of my e63's eisenmann quads.

I have opted for ovals. I like both dual and oval but I sense that the market will be going oval, in that every performance saloon/ estate seems to go for dual pipes reaching a saturation point. I had ABT dual pipes on my last Audi, they looked great. The R8 V10 I had for a week had ovals and I grew to like them.

I have a Ducati in garage with full race Termi's on, to be fair that really is loud  I'd be very surprised if the RS6 with Milltek will be that crashy but will soon find out

I have a resonated Milltek fitted -- it is significantly louder (bassy) at tickover and slightly louder throughout the range. It is however a bit boomy at 70 - 80 mph - which I find annoying when cruising at these speeds. 09 RS6 saloon

I'm sure Nudenut can recommend some effective biker ear plugs to cut out the mid range boom.
CEO you don't sound that enthusiastic about your Millys?

Does the Pope sh*t in the woods? Absolutely he does . In fact I bet he'd fit Millteks on his Pope mobile if he could.

The Milltek sounds OK?-- but I am currently looking for an exhaust with driver controlled valves -- then it can be REALLY noisy for when I`m in the mood to frighten everyone -- or nice and subdued for the longer runs -- (where the booming REALLY gets on your nerves).
