Awesome looking beast. I think you are the first I have seen post... sure more will be along. Unfortunately I dont think it is the sort of car that attracts enthusiasts though... that should change with time though :(

I am thinking about one but what can I do to mod it? The new RS6 might be faster

I reckon you'll be right about the new RS6, although there's not much of a 'real world' difference with the S8 to the old RS6. The power's delivered differently and you need to rev the 8 more to get it to play. I actually think it handles better than my RS6 did, especially on poor surfaces, though neither car is exactly nimble. The biggest drawbacks for me are the size, especially reversing it into my garage, and the even worse than RS6 fuel consumption around town, although they're much of a likeness on a run. I'll certainly be looking hard at the new RS6, but it'll have to be a big step forward to tempt me.

the S 8 looks gorgeous BUT it must be like driving the QM2! does its sheer size make it a cumbersome beast to negociate any road thats not a motorway? saying that if you can afford one of these then I am sure you will have something "smaller" tucked away for madicinal purposes?

nice car though, please dont get me wrong about that....

question though... since the R8 is on the scene, how can Audi if they will make an RS8? I think that perhaps there wont be an RS8 version of this car if there will be more varieties of the R8 in future that will spaun an RS version.. confused.. me to

Perhaps the R8 should have been called the R9

Actually, we're a one car family, so two wages into one car and no mortgage, makes it a lot more affordable. It's actually far more nimble on the minor roads than you'd think from looking at it, although a real pain to park in restricted spaces.
I've just returned from a week in the Harz mountains and Berlin and am really impressed with the way it dealt with the minor roads in the mountains.
Judging by the number of Germans who actually stopped their cars to drool over it when it was parked, I reckon they're pretty rare over there too!

I don't think a RS8 would sell- there's no point if there's an RS6 available, especially as there's very little difference in internal space between the 6 and the 8. - the boot was actually bigger on my RS6.

hmm!! not saying its you but to some the name on its rump says it all... RS6 or RS8,a badge means more to some folk than others and its the pinacle of that particular manufactures product.

ok the next RS6 is under development as we speak BUT these will appeal to different people for different reasons, perhaps Audi wont make an RS8 because as you say it wont sell... the S8 ISNT Audi's bread earner but with AMG version of Merc and Alphina for BMW does Audi need something to compete with these guys? Would you spend twice the original cost for a car just to have exclusivity that your car is 1 of only a handfull made? some people "want to be seen in this catagory"

The next RS6 as I am sure will be one hell of a car to compete with the E63 and the M5, all within a few hp of each other so at the end of the day why do "you" choose Audi over the other 2 marques... personal taste and probably one upmanship?

Not necessarily, I recently took my A8 (D2) around Croft for a bit of a thrash, and she's more than capable down the country lane twisties  :FIREdevil:

The S8 is a stunning and lovely bit of machinery. Luxury and Performance all the way. If I could afford it one of these and a GT3.

I think the RS4 is the closest thing I can get for a combination of both.

Good to see an owner who atleast enjoys all aspects of the car. Very Nice!

One just been sold in North Queensland, Australia. $20000 B/O sound system, twin throttle bodies and what a sound from the back. Someone told me you can purchase software upgrade to match the performance of the gallardo ? Whether you'd want to do this is another matter.

I managed to get a few laps in an S8 being used as a safety car and it seemed surprisingly nimble, whilst being driven like it'd been nicked

I got mine in HK a month ago. B&O + Ceramic brake ! Is it true to have software upgrade to gain higher power? Most of them, like MTM, is only removing the speed limit.
