Alloygators - yes or no?

Post by DJSF1966 » Thu Oct 05, 2017 12:49 pm

I have 20" satin black twin-spoke alloys (RS4 style) on my S5 S/B with black centres and black nut covers, which have all just been refurbed (car has black pack on it, and Quartz Grey, so overall two-tone effect with minimal chrome).

Thinking about getting some black Alloygators fitted, as despite putting Dunlops on the rims (the tyre with the largest kerbing band in this size), the rims still got clipped...

On other (non-Audi) Fora there appears to be mixed views on their effectiveness, but these posts are all from some time ago, and I was wondering if there was more current information?

All info/views welcome - especially from those who have personal experience of their use.

Thanks.

My RS4 had them on when I bought it, as apparently the previous owner's wife was terrible at parking. This was evident when I took them off as the rims were a mess! The gators themselves were pretty scuffed too, which would lead me to presume that they did their job ok, the issue I had is that they look terrible. It's like having stabilisers on a bike.

My advice? Just park better

I appreciate the "Just park better" comment. However it's not always possible when in a rush, or distracted by our wee girl...

I'm hoping that a "total black" look for the tyres, rims and 'gators will hide them from casual view...

I managed to dig out some pics of mine when I first bought it, still with the gators on it. You're welcome :beerchug:

Thanks for the pics. I have similar rims, but the satin black finish and their size do a good job of making the Alloygators “disappear” (I went ahead and got them fitted professionally...) - the effect is not dissimilar to a black hole! LOL
