Service interval

Post by ewand » Thu Aug 22, 2013 6:40 pm

hi - my wife's 2010 S5 cab got an "Audi Variable service" in October last year, and now, 10k miles later, the car's saying it needs another one. Surely this should be a long-life service?

What should the service interval be for normal use?

cheers

Ads is correct to ask, lots of short town driving where the oil and water may not always get up to temp will reduce service intervals greatly. Lot's of motorway work is not good either as you are not working the rev range.

Best for intervals is a mixture of town and A/B roads, allows good use of the rev range and getting the temps up.

I live about 5 miles from the nearest town and a good 30 from the nearest city and with all my Audi's have seen either the 2 year 18,000m between services.

Talking with a mechanic at Audi he regularly sees town cars come in at as low as 8,000m or 6 months between services, especially the diesels with DPF.

A mix of motorways and A/B road, TBH - nothing out of the ordinary with most days a 20 odd mile commute so it has enough time to come well up to temps. Not thrashed (much :) ) but not mollycoddled either. I'm surprised it needs servicing so soon - I'd have thought 15k miles or maybe 18 months would be more reasonable.
