Another S5 Newbie :-D

Post by scottyr » Sun Jan 09, 2011 4:34 pm

Picked the car up on friday....in red (not my no1 choice but it was a bargain).

Over the next 6 months I'll get it wrapped but not 100% sure what colour yet.

As for the car...absolutely amazing. I went and looked at an m3 (and even a 06 M6 and the interiors are incomparable...in fact I'd go as far to say the M3 interiors are awful.

I just love the audi and it drives SOOOO WELL. Can't see why it's had an average write up.

Yeah I've been waiting for a chance to get mine clean too. Needs a proper going over as it's covered in salt and dirt everywhere. Even got white salt marks on the front carpets (hope they come out). Got the full AG kit to sort it out ready and waiting.

Great to here you've got your car Scotty. They really are wicked. I think those that say it's an average car clearly have never driven one for any length of time. I can't say I've really missed the RS4. The S5 is soooo much easier to drive on a day-to-day basis. I've not had any of the reliability problems I had with RS4 (tough wood). Absolutely love it. And of course it's got all the mod-cons inside too. Can't go wrong.

I'll get some pics of mine up too when I get it cleaned. Hopefully we can start building up a bit of a community on here too. It's been lonely!

I've got the coupe with the 4.2 v8. It's the same lump (I presume) that's in the RS4 but not as tuned up. Still makes a lovely sound when pushed though. I've got the semi-auto box too which is smooth as.

I've not driven the sportback or the soft-top with the v6 in it. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's driven both. To me though, you can't beat the v8!

I've a 57 V8 model with all the bells and whistles.. (well, not side assist and rear camera and still sits on 19s but the important stuff is there).

I think it's a lovely sound with the factory exhaust, providing you're outside the car when it's going...inside is too insulated to hear it in it's full glory, but with the B+O turned off, you still get a lovely note when the car is pushed.

The only..ONLY problem I have with the car is that the first gear is too mental. Very very short and a smooth switch into second is impossible (I have the manual).

Apart from that...WOW

If you want to have a play, you can get around 400bhp with an AWE exhaust and ECU remap but I'm happy as it is. Besides...that MPG count in real time is scary enough as it is...everytime the foot is pressed not matter what gear, you're dropping to 11 and under.

Lovely. Proper S/RS colour!

I'm keeping mine standard too. May get some Rs5 pedals at some point but that's it.

They do sound awesome from the outside. I was knockin around my town recently and heard this guy blipping his car. There are so many Astons knocking around I assumed it was a Vantage and turned round to see if my ear was right. Wrong! It was brand new Ibis S5 coupe with standard exhaust. Gorgeous. Made my day.

Enjoy the car

Ps - the auto box is quite snappy 1st to 2nd too. I hope they do a software update. Although when you put your footdown it's fine. Just doesn't like a sedate pull-away. Maybe it's just trying to tell me it wants a spanking!

Is it not the same block but Audi limit the revs? I know the RS4 engine is the high-revving version but it's the same block isn't it?

Either way, it makes a bloody good noise. As the RS4 engine does.

Hi Scotty & Phil. :thumb:
Haven't been onsite for a few months; was in a quandry about emigrating to Singapore; finally decided to stay.
So I get to keep my lovely S5 that I bought in Sept (cars in Singapore cost 2.5 times the price here, so would have had to downgrade substantially!)
Lovely pics!
Getting mine detailed by Justin on Monday, after the grubby winter. Will try to post some pics thereafter.

Been checking with my friendly salesman Elliott at Poole Audi. Thinks the S5 and RS5 V8 are the same block
