Broken Milltek

Post by RS4pete » Fri Jun 25, 2010 6:49 pm

Just looking for some advice really.

Brought the S3 over a year ago with a full large bore Milltek on (awesome sound :D ) However the engine mount broke and this has caused the cat to fail so now the exhaust blows pretty badly. (No strenghted bottom engine mount was fitted when the exhaust was which probally caused the faliure)

Taken it to an indepenedent and seem to have a few options.

1)Milltek will re-weld for free but will cost over 200 pounds to refit and no gurantee it wont fail again.
2)Buy a new cat at half price (300 pounds) and fit with 2 year warranty.
3)Find a original S3 cat and fit that instead of the Milltek (looking at the part numbers i think this is possible) but loose the performance and sound :(

I think Milltek are being pretty fair as I have no proof of purchase so might fork out for a new cat but it is still alot of money, even at half price!!!

Who is charging you £200 to fit an exhaust? Should be no more than £80 for both removal and re-fitting?? In any case, you are going to have to pay to get it removed and a new one fitted??

it was 200 to remove blowing cat, fit tempory one (to move around garage) then remove tempory one and refit welded cat. so basically fit two exhausts. Hopefully though they can just push the car off and on the ramps to avoid the cost for fitting two exhausts.

Due to the cost ill probably go for the re-weld option. Will be done @ Milltek so should be a good job. Anyone have any experience of reliability with welded exhausts?

I don't think they will remove and refit for free .. If it was a faulty they would ...

See if you can get a sport's decatted down pipe fron JBS or the TT shop..

Got this sorted now. Milltek re-welded the exhaust and Vag Tech fitted. 4 months on and no probs what-so-ever. So big thumbs up for Milltek and Vag Tech .
