Serious Problem with my Audi

Post by stugolf » Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:50 am

Hi guys, just need some help if possible, I drive an A3 3.2 DSG (sorry its not an S)

It developed a problem last night while driving along at 40mph, the car started to shake a little bit, like a loose wheel, not through the steering so I can only assume its something to do with the back on the car, so I pulled over checked all the wheel nuts which were tight so I drove on, the vibration continued only after about 35mph, the vibration got worse and worse and I was forced to stop.

After I stopped I set off again and it was fine until I hit a steady 35mph and it started all over again, I have checked the wheels, hubs and driveshafts and they are all fine and tight, I am now concerned its possibly the DGS gearbox or the 4WD system

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks a lot Stu

The car does shake violently as well, it starts off slowly but if you maintain your speed the shaking gets so bad you have to stop as you can't see where your going and it feels like the car is shaking to bits, only seems to start happening when the car is warm as well, say after 2 miles? something is out of balance badly on the car just have to figure out what!

Well after all the investigation work and issues with the gearbox, diff, haldex etc, I have figured out its 2 buckled rear wheels! I tried some brand new wheels on the back last night and it didn't vibrate at all!

How did you buckle two and not remember? I thought you had checked the rear wheels per my question about wheel weights coming off?

Seems strange that it gets worse when warm....

Any way, glad you fixed it!

I've only had the car for 2 weeks, so it was like that 50miles after I bought it! I have a feeling the wheels were "swapped" at some point as the wear is much different on the back that the front

I made that mistake once (putting the front onto the rear) and will never do it again! They all wore out at the same time ;)

Awesome!

Hide your plate asap, or the car will be for sale on eBay next week!
