New S3 forum?

Post by DuncS3 » Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:13 pm

The new S3 is offically coming - pictures in this weeks Autocar - 2.0T as we all knew already. 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, 261 bhp alledgedly. Its an 8P chassis so is it going to have its own forum?

It even has a flat bottomed steering wheel :)

Yes, there were some comments on PH about that detail.

Pretty light for a 260bhp engine with c 300 ft lbs of torque though. The B5 S4 v6 tt is very close to those stats and weights 200kg - progress.

I reckon 310-320 bhp and 360 ft lbs torque chipped will make it a great car :)

Not a dumb question.

The VAG group have spent lots of money developing that 2.0TFSI engine, it will be around for a long time and the output will keep creeping up.

I reckon if/when they do another RS6 it will have turbos because there isn't another n/a engine above the S6's V10 :D

BMW has just produced the 335i petrol turbo 3 series, and Mercedes is moving to turbos instead of superchargers - I think its just the RS4 was NA - I expect more turbos

Yep, I agree with you.

BMW said they would never produce a petrol turbo engine (well we know about the 2002 Turbo, I'm talking about the modern, fully electronic era) but the power to weight, packaging and fuel efficiency gains are impossible to ignore. Twin scroll technology will also move petrol turbos on to where almost all petrol engines will be turbocharged in 10 years IMO.

The obsession with power suits me fine :nodder:

Expect more diesels too, high performance ones...

Is there any substance behind the "DS" series rumours...?

You got to wonder why they never make a 5 door version of these type of cars. After all it is prob the family man who has the cash to buy them. Not saying if you don't have kids you are skint prob the other way around but you know what i mean. Just because you have kids does not mean you want to drive a normal family car :?

It is light, quick and prob quite mpg friendly. Ided for the family
BMW 540i
2018 GTR
F90 M5
X3MC
RS3 Saloon
RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.
F10 M5 LCI still no rear grip lol
S7 black Edition Too big and heavy
S3 8V FL DSG 310ps, road noise is a joke
RS3 8P Rubbish
C7 RS6 Fantastic car but missed playing
GTR R35 800bhp, too extreme, crazy fast though
911 Turbo Remapped. Hated it
F10 M5, awesome but no rear grip
RS6 V10 700BHP crazy
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 600bhp

Audi went to a lot of trouble with the A3 sportback because the old 5 door A3 did not sell (less than 10% of total!) So it makes sense for them to do a 5 door S3 IMO, they do all variants of the other S & RS models after all. But then what do I know :)
