Possible B7 RS4 tyre group buy

Post by pippyrips » Wed Nov 07, 2007 10:53 am

Right chaps,

I will be needing new boots all-round for the RS shortly so am in the process of ringing round and getting the best prices.

The 3 tyres I am particularly interested in are the following:

• CONTINENTAL CONTI-SPORTCONTACT 3 XL
• MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL
• VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA

In order to keep things simple i am looking for 255/35/19 only. After talking to a few suppliers, some (unsurprisingly!) are willing to offer discounts on bulk orders.

Are any of you interested in getting a set of any of the above? I’m only checking on numbers at present to see if this is worthwhile pursuing but I did something previously on another forum which got all involved a tidy discount.

If you are interested can you put post below along with your tyre preference by COP today and I will see what we can get.

Cheers.

Interest so far:
1) pippyrips - (CONTINENTAL CONTI-SPORTCONTACT 3 XL/ MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL/ VEREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA)
2) W8PMC - (PERELLI P-ZERO/ MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL)
3) JIMMER - (PERELLI P-ZERO/ MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL)
4) NIPPER - (PERELLI P-ZERO)

For info - i have been quoted £140 a corner delivered on the VEREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA assuming we can get 5 sets. Thats £560 for 4 tyres delivered to your door!! (for the same tyre that came 2nd in the 2007 Evo tyre test.) For full results table see link below:

UPDATED INTEREST LIST:

1) pippyrips - (CONTINENTAL CONTI-SPORTCONTACT 3 XL/ MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL/ VEREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA)
2) W8PMC - (PERELLI P-ZERO/ MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL)

4) NIPPER - (PERELLI P-ZERO)
5) GEORGE1976 - (MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL)
6) ROTAVIRUS - (MICHELIN PILOT SPORT PS 2 XL)

It looks like we have a clear favourite

I've spoken to one of the main tyre companies today who have offered 5% off their already competitive prices for the PS2's. I have asked for 10% so he will be calling me back tomorrow after checking with the boss.

Are you sure no one fancies the Verdestein's? They are getting very strong reviews allround at the moment and at £560 for a full set delivered to your door they are the sale of the century. Just look at how they scored compared to the PS2's:

Verdestein:

PS2:

I ran the old Ultrac on my STI and was really impressed. When you way up the costs and wear rates between the two its seems a no-brainer :!:

Nice one. Do you have a price yet for 4 X PS2's??

TBH i take very little from Tyre reviews, as more so that car reviews, i'm sure bungs are a plenty. Bit like insurance as well, i'd rather pay a slight premium to deal with a well known brand, than try to save a few ££'s by entering the unknown.

Been well chuffed with my P-Zeros & have always been pleased with PS2's on previous cars, so will try out PS2's on the RS4.

The more i research the Verdestein the more i am seriously tempted by it. I have been reading lots of independant driver reviews on various forums and have yet to hear 1 bad thing said about them.

That said i am still waiting on prices for 6 sets of each type of tyre mentioned above from a few places so will make a decsion once they are all in.

Hi There.. I was just thinking, if you're so keen on the Vreds why not just go buy them? The majority here have expressed a preference as per your instructions...

Also, I paid £181 per corner for PS2s on my M3 last year at costco (fitted) so £200 isnt a great deal... they might be worth a call as they're solus Mich suppliers. I'm fully supportive of your efforts.. sorry if this sounds in anyway disparaging. Good luck!

Good point well made George.

I have just got off the phone to Costco and they will supply PS2’s fitted for 187.98 per corner which is by far the best price I have seen. The downside to using Costco is that they require private membership which is only available “if you are a bonafide business owner/manager who can provide evidence of trading” which rules me out! See policy here:

http://www.costco.co.uk/Membership_home ... p_home.htm

Therefore, the best prices received so far are:

Michelin PS2 - 197.40 per corner
Conti 3 - 179.88 per corner
Goodyear GSD3 - 151.00 per corner
Verdestein Sassanta - 140.00 per corner

All prices above are for XL 96Y (or higher) Delivery is £9 on top though I should be able to get this waived.

If you want in on any of the prices above please re-post your name with the tyre type and quantity you want.

Cheers
