I picked up a genuine Ross-Tech cable from a forum member a while back, just got round to having a play and already stuck, when I run an initial test, on COM1, I get message stating 'interface not found'

I am running VCDS 10.6 on my laptop, I've tried in both ON and IGNITION ON mode, I connect Hex to car port first then to USB in laptop, what am I doing wrong? Do I need to subscribe with Ross-Tech for another $99!?

Hi Nils.
IIRC... doesn't it show USB on the VCDS screen as an option to pick ? (not Com1, which was the old serial port model/ dummy USB)

Edit: I've just checked:~ Select Options > USB > then click on Test.

I thought that, so tried USB too, no luck, I'm sure it's something really simple I'm doing wrong but getting frustrated now!

Take it outside your car and whack it on the curb (bit like you were trying to kill a snake) !

Failing that. Again, from memory..... ignition off & VCDS not running.... > plug cable into car > plug other end into USB socket > Run VCDS > Igniton to ON (but don't start engine) > Check that USB is hi-lighted as before > Click Test.
If it doesn't work.... DON'T touch anything.... just leave it a few mins.... then click Autoscan.
See if that works (I sometimes have to wait a while for mine to wake up)... you ask the missus about it phnaw phnaw.
