A friend of mine has given me his vagcom software and USB cable (blue with LED) that has previously worked on his RS6 2003, I recently tried to use VAGCOM on my rs6 2003 plate but my laptop tells me 'inferface: found not when I set it to any of the COM port and USB port options.

Anyway I had a chat with some fellow RS246ers and it seems the cable I have needs to work as a COM port cable instead of USB in VAGCOM. My laptop runs on Windows XP and has no COM ports but 3 USB2 ports.

How can i check if i have all the drivers and i understand there is supposed to be a away get the USB to read as a COM port??? Can anyone help... I am not the most computer literate so i need a little help and i cant find the answer amongst all the reponses in this forum.

The cable sounds like a non genuine Vag-Com lead, if so when you connected it to the car, you need to have the ignition on otherwise it will not power up and will not be seen by the computer.

I had this on a cheap e-bay special lead.
