I have full paid ross tech software but cant stretch to the $350 at the moment for the original cable, plus its an emergency driving to Amsterdam Wednesday!

Any ebay cables let you clear fault codes?

I have a genuine Ross-Tech serial cable without a dongle. If you are sure that it's your software that's licensed (newer cables all have a dongle - hardware which stores the license), this should work fine for you.
Saying that, licensed software should in theory work with the eBay cables to.

Some (most) of the eBay cables only work with older versions of VAG-COM either 3.11 or 4.09 see http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/
