as above really - are there any other uses for vagcom?

1) Recode the way many units behave e.g. door locking over 5mph, drivers door only on first press, window closing from remote, etc.
2) Change the coding of units when you retrofit e.g. cruise control, full DIS, sat nav, etc.
3) Reset the service warning indication (fixed and AVS).

You need to look at both the Ross-Tech website (for vehicle procedures) at http://www.ross-tech.com and the Ross-Tech wiki at http://wiki.ross-tech.com. The OpenOBD website is good too at http://de.openobd.org

Logging to measure various aspects of engine performance, ie: boost spec/actual, MAF readings, misfire detection, long term fuel trims, etc.
