I have a A4 96 so have looked at the KEY-USB rosstech lead, but is it worth going for the HEX-USB+CAN instead for forwards compatibility and resale?

thanks

Which Version of Ross-Tech VAG-Com is best for the B5 A4 and is the Lead you mention here the best suited?

Thanks in advance!

If it's only going to be used for a B5 A4 (S4\RS4) etc, then the KEY-USB will be adequate. I upgraded to the HEX-USB-CAN for compatibility with newer VAG cars as I have a MK5 Golf, but if this isnt a requirement for you then the KEY cable offers just as much functionality as the HEX one for your car.

Thanks TopBear!

Primarily, this is for a mate, and he want's to be able to diagnose any VW/Audi prior to 2001.

I have a cable (bought on ebay) which also has the 2 separate connectors for Audi's from as early as 1993 (& OBDII). The Rosstech version 331 I think, would not read a 1998 A4 2.4 last night. I don't know whether this is because we were using the wrong Rosstech version of Vagcom or that my cable is not compatible, even though I have a USB adapter as well as a regular Comms port. It would not work with either.

Your thoughts would be appreciated!

Cheers

PS. How did you get on with the detailer?

Oooh, dunno about the older VAG cars, perhaps this table explains it clearer than I'd be able to http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/interfaces.html

Is the cable you've got a genuine Ross-Tech VAG-COM cable or eBay copy?

Car looks great, Dave did a sterling job on my too.

Cable is an e-bay copy, but worked on my earlier S2 and mates Audi 100 S4.

Car looks the biz by the way!!
