I have just bouoght a used spare from Topbear on here as i lost my spare. I need to programme it. I done a search but cant make out whether this can be done by myself or this does have to be a trip to the stealers. Does anyone know what i have to do?

Search again!
You can code the remote central locking but not the immobiliser. That has to be done by a dealer.

I've just bought a gadget called Vag-Tacho from Ebay..... it works a treat to read the immobiliser code and programme keys! And what's more it was cheap... £28 delivered! Highly recommended......
When I say read the immobiliser code I mean you can read it and use the code to adapt new ECU's as well.. No more having to visit the stealers!

I just looked at the keys and although they have identical keys and look identical the actual key seems to be cut different. Do i have to get another bit cut for it? I just checked the key bit they both have HAA written on them, but the new (second hand) one has a w on the side of it.

Are you saying it will do all thats needed to add a new key to the car. Immobilser adaption normally needs contact with the database in Germany to work.

As I understand it, VAG-Tacho extracts the SKC which is then used with VAG-COM to code new keys to the immobiliser.
VAG-COM can't read the SKC, VAG-Tacho is needed (or a trip to the dealer's to allow them to do it).

Steve, You'll need to buy a new blade from eBay and get a locksmith to cut the key for your ignition and door lock.

Vag Tacho will obtain and display the SKC code. It also has an option to code keys, but you could use the SKC with Vag Com to code the keys instead. It's a great bit of kit, which cuts out the need to go to the stealers! I've used mine a few times without any problems.

I might get one of those. There is some coding I'd like to do on the cluster of our Golf too. Was that the seller you bought from Mikey?

The first one I bought wasn't from this seller, and it was faulty. After sending that back I bought this one and it works as described. One word of warning though... if any of you guys have Vag-Com you will see that the plug is just like a VAG plug, ie very slim. This one is a cheaper plug, and although it's a very tight fit it does plug in to the very small Audi plug surrounds. It works, but I keep thinking that I should have bought one with a Vag style plug. I have returned the first plug to the seller from Ebay and I'm awaiting his reply, at this point I won't mention any names because he seems to be a decent guy to work with, but I will let you know if he should be avoided. Mike.

So what do you enter for the date, WSC and importer numbers?

Good question! That's one for Ross Tech to answer. I'm not sure how that would work, but with Vag-Tacho you don't need any of the WSC, date or dealer codes. When using Vag com to code a key, the SKC is calculated using a combination of the date and the supplied codes. Vag Tacho reads the actual SKC code. Plus all of the B5 cars can be done using the 4 digit login, not the 7digit.
