RE: key fobs
You will need to get this done with a SKC to actually mate it to the car.
Remote can be programmed, either by VAG-COM, or manually, or at least this is the case with Golf's
1. Put already programmed key in the ignition and turn on the ign. Then close the door, and put the key to be programmed into the barrel, lock the car, and hold down the lock button, and then unlock, and hold down the unlock button. You should hear a chirp from the horn if done right.
2. Via VAG-COM. Not entirely sure on this. Again only familiar with Golf's. But if its anything like them, then go into 35-Central lcoking, and go into adaptation, and then find the channel for keys (probably 1/2), and entre the no. of keys to be programmed, and then test, save, and then press all/both of the buttons on the fob, and then insert the next key and do the same

Indeed. If you've got a good relationship with your dealer they may do it FOC, if not, don't let them charge you more than 30 minutes labour, it's an easy job (even for a dealer!).g60bv wrote:D'OHJarv wrote:You can pair the key to the central locking but it won't start the car due to the immobiliser. You are looking at 0.5 hrs labour to code the new key to your car, but I'm not sure if you need all the keys present during the programming session.
Just be sure that your key is 100% compatible with your car, as I bought one thinking it was, which turned out not to be. Car couldnt pair with the immobilser or open the central locking.
I can't be arsed scouring around for another 2nd hand 100% match, as well as not knowing how good condition the old key is, so just stumped up the £90 to order a brand new one.

£90 for the part only. I;ve been quoted £160 inc VAT, to cut and code the key to the car. Not sure how you can tell compatibility, some say that as long as the part number (except the last letter) are the same. Others say they have to be in a specific range.g60bv wrote:90 quid for a brand new one. does that include coding.?
how do you know if its compatible. daft question i know..
