VAG COM AND IMMOBILISER RESETTING

Can I use VAG - Com to reset the immobiliser?
History:
Bought my B5 RS4 recently as a stolen recovered at auction.
Minor interior damage due to the Canutes that nicked it (stole key from previous owners house) trying to find and disable the tracker - when they had reached their destintation..
Anyway, enough of the history - the problem
In thier inept hunt they removed the dash and appeard to have tried to prise out the blue connector on the back with a screwdriver and shorted it and melted the socket and dash.
I have a replacement dash which is a rebult unit taking the innards form an S4 dashand the dials form the RS4 dash (if anyone has a propper working RS4 dash that they want to sell let me know - I would be intersted)
However, I will need to reset the immob' - has anyone done this - I have the keycode/tag number and the Audi factory manuals. Does Vag Com do this ?
Any advice at all would be helpful!
Thanks
Ps - Yo may have worked out from what I have said that I have not driven the RS4 yet...so keen to get sorted

if you have the keycode then i believe vag-com can do it, have a look here for 4 digit codes
http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/k ... digit.html
and here for 7 digit codes

Thanks for that - I'll have a look and provide an update

PS - I have bought the Audi factory manuals (from erWin -
www.erwin.volkswagen.de) for circuit diagrams and electrical systems so can look something up if someone is stuck)

Not yet - thinking of buying as we have 3 VAG cars in family - is it worth getting?
Have tax rebate due (Result!) so will have a few quid to invest in a new toy.

it's definately worth it, get the genuine lead though from ross-tech, they ship to the uk more or less overnight and the favourable exchange rate makes it a bit of a bargain at the mo.
i've used mine for so many things, i wanted the wifes Pashat to autolock the doors once she set off as a anti-theft measure, VW wanted 70 quid to do that and 35 quid for each subsequent change so to do that, the confirm bleep on locking and one touch opening was going to cost 140 quid, vag-com cost me about 150 so it was a bargain as far i was concerned.
you can reset certain functions on the car, download and diagnose fault codes and log sensors so in my opinion it's paramount to keeping your car(s) in fine fettle.
i've also scanned prospective purchases for people to ensure they were in fine fettle, sometimes it gives you a bit of additional bargaining power.
if you buy the genuine one you'll find Hew and Sebastian frequent the vag-com section to help with any issues you have, they also release updates on a regular basis, obviously you can't take advantage of this expertise if you buy an ebay dongle.

AFAIK you can only do the key matching with VAG COM if you have the four digit code.
If you don't then you'll have to book it into the dealer and they'll do it via a 7 digit code which is specific to that dealer, and only for that day. Plus this is done via the network so even the technician working on the car doesn't see the code.

Thanks for the info on the codes - Have a seven digit code on the key fob and another with a few letters and a 4 digit code at the end - any ideas if this is the four needed?
Thanks

IIRC the 7 digit code you refer to maybe the last few characters of the chassis number. Check.
If its just 4 number digits after this, then this may well be the correct 4 digit code, and in which case you will be able to match/adapt your keys.

Vac Com module and lead arrived on Thursday - used it this morning - Brilliant - and absolute bargain at the current exchange rates - hightly recommended.
Still fathoming out immbiliser though, may have to be a visit to the dealer to get car fixed and wallet extorted.
