Power cutting out

Post by TopBear » Sun Sep 23, 2007 10:01 pm

My car seems to be misbehaving today. Been running fine recently then today I started it, and gave it slight revs on the accelerator as I was reversing and it almost cut out completely. Only able to drive it by basically increasing the revs very slowly, anything more and it cuts the power like its got a 'choke' out.

Got these codes from VAG-COM

16621 - Manifold Pressure / Boost Sensor (G31): Signal too Low
P0237 - 35-00 - -
16490 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96): Implausible Signal
P0106 - 35-00 - -

Anyone any idea?

Found this link after some Googling, seems to indicate a faulty MAP (not MAF) sensor.

Is this a diy job to replace, or should I get (another) job lot of vaseline in?

Yep, seen that also, the common denominator of both faults seems to be the manifold sensors... no?

Also is there any general guide to the text parts:- Signal too Low, Implausible Signal, 35-00 of the fault

Cheers Phil, have pinged him an email.

I've done some logging on VAG-COM whilst the car was stationery, just gentle revving, to see if there are any clues there.

anyone notice anything strange???

G31 is the boost sensor which sits in the top of the tbb. Easy to change although getting the old clip off is a bit of a bugger. Expensive to buy though, think I paid around 100 quid. Buy the proper hose clip too, only about 30p.

F96 is in the ecu and I'm not sure if it can be changed as a seperate item but I'm sure someone on here (probably Doug) will.

I think I have a spare G31 as I replaced mine when it wasn't actually the problem.

I will have a look today for you.

Cheers fella, Your right enough, I was quoted £88 inc VAT from my local Audi dealer, whilst VAG-Parts are charging £48 inc delivery for the same part.
I did think about posting up, to see if anyone had one spare, but really didnt think there would be, so I've ordered a new G31 from VAG Parts but its gonna take a week to get here, as its a special order part.

New MAP sensor arrived today and now fitted (2 min job, literally).

Car is now working 100%....thank god

Both DTC's now gone, so can only assume the 16490 has a dependency on the 16621 code.
