Vagcom will work fine on most systems - just make sure you get the right connector on the cable - probs USB these days :)

Tiny program considering what it does, won't affect it for other use at all.

Buy a genuine lead though, cost around £260 here but I think cheaper from the US.

Buy the cable, download the software and away you go.

I think the reason people (including me) bought laptops for it is we couldn't buy an extension lead long enough to run it from a desktop.

Plus not a good idea to have your car sat outside with the keys in the ignition while you are in the house looking at Vag-Com.

Police Officer "when did you notice your car was stolen sir?"

Desktop Vag-Com user "when the cable jumped out of my computer and disappeared out of the window"

I bought the full hex can usb which does all the latest vehicles for 260 spons from Gendan in the UK.

The software is free, the cable contains the license and the first time you use it it will register to it.

Not only can you then check your car but you can have fun telling your mates they have faulty flaps (aircon) etc.

VAG-COM works fine on my Dell Inspiron 510m.

I have a HEX-COM+CAN lead, and VAG-COM 704.1

I'm running Vista too, having upgraded to 2GB RAM.

I ordered online from Ross-Tech, paid the Customs fee when the lead arrived (Ross-Tech email you an invoice and enclose a "customs" invoice with the lead?!). I've had great support online from Ross Tech both direct and via the many forums they are active on - I don't see a need for UK based backup.

I run Vagcom quite happily on a 4 year old HP jobby (XP) with a steam driven processor.

The software is a piece of cake to install (well on XP anyway...not going anywhere near Vista for a few years!).

I just cant believe the lead costs what you say!! HOLLY .....!!

is the lead compatable for ALL Audi's then or model specific?

I am about to get a new laptop tomorrow so interested in getting a copy of the program, but with the costs of the lead... perhaps not then! :(

The lead is expensive, but the program is free! You've only got to diagnose faults a couple of times to pay for itself (at Audi rates). The guys behind vagcom have done a lot of work with the product and the technical support/backup is damn good too - very much value for money!
