EGT fault help needed

Hi,

Logged a fault the other day on one of the EGT sensors, hopefully someone can tell me which EGT this relates to - there's one for sale in the classifieds but I have no idea if it's the one I need:

17861 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 1 (G235): Open or Short to Plus
P1453 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

You could try disconnect one and see if it removed the intermittant of bring up another fault that should tell you which one. Make sure you get an EGT with exactly that same part number. I had to get mine the same as my car had been remapped and there are slight differences apparently. Mine ended in "D".

if you check in the self study guide you see that G235 is the right hand side one and G236 the left hand as you sit in the car

I have been under my bonnet tonight working out the same fault code and have found that lucky for me the
" 17863 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sensor 1 (G235): Implausible Signal
P1455 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent "
message corresponds to the egt on the drivers side of the car and is by far the easier one of the two to get to!!!
now to sort out the rest of my faults!!!!!

I think if you change your maf you may find the lamda and egt codes will go unless the damage is already done.

Had the same code on my RS4 B5 last week, but on sensor 2 (Passenger side) - changed EGT this weekend (what a bitch), now all ok.....

Did you need any special tools to do this as it does(as you suggest) look like a PITA of a job to do?

lol, I rember doing this on the 2.7T A6, ended up stripping some of the nearby hoses and with a spanner attached to a piece of string so I didn't lose it down the back of the engine. Oh, and I needed some new skin on my knuckles too. It's amusing to compare it to how easy the driver's side is to replace!

Is it possible to avoid taking the engine out to replace the passenger side EGT sensor ?

Yes but I believe it is a bit fiddly.
