buying a new car, vagcom any good?

I am off to see another allroad soon. I took my audi technician mate along who had his special VAS laptop to check all the fault codes.

I am off to see another car, but it's too far for him to travel. I've just bought a copy of vagcom, can I run a full fault diagnosis scan like you can on vas?

The vas brought up things like an intermitidant deadlock failure, as well as potentiometer failure on one of the aircon flaps. the kinda thing no-one would be able to check otherwise! Will vagcom do the same easily?

thanks!
mark

i would expect any faults that are logged by VAS to be logged by vag-com as long as the dongle is compatable with the car being tested

Dave is right, the codes the VAS shows will also be shown by VAG-COM (easiest way is to run an Auto-Scan). In some cases it makes sense to do some logging (e.g. MAF or boost related) on the test drive with the car to find hidden issues.

What car exactly are you looking at? What engine?
