RS4 B5 Mileage Alteration

The speedo unit on my 2001 RS4 B5 recently packed up. I was lucky enough to find a 2nd hand one on ebay, but the problem is the mileage is now showing about 25,000 miles less than what it should. The other problem is that all the MOT certs and service history show that the car should be at a higher mileage, so it almost makes it look like I've clocked the car.

I know that there are 'mileage correction' companies that advertise in autotrader and such, but just wondered if there is anyway (using VAG-COM) that I can put the correct mileage in myself?

Thanks

Or investigate your old clocks and see if the milage memory module can be swapped out?

Yep, that will be my final option as I dont fancy taking the clocks back out again. It would probably be easier if I could just plug my laptop in or something.

When a new odometer has less than 100km (or the miles equivalent on it) it CAN be set to the "old mileage" using VAG-COM but after that there's no "official" way to change it - up or down.

I think Grizz posted a while ago that it can and has been done for him. Maybe PM him?

You will need to recode the dash to match the key and the ECU with the SKC number before it will start. Generally the dealers are the only places who can do this. The new SKC number is installed via a dealer based coms link. You dont see the number any more so you cannot save it for future use.
Then you may be able to use one of the many mileage ajustment companys that exist, 5 min job through the OBD port, iro £80.
