Brake pad warning

A puzzle for you all...

I fitted new brake pads yesterday, went for ones without the wear sensors. Thought to myself 'no problem, just recode the dash so is doesn't show an error'

So today I open VAG-COM and go to change the code, thinking I'll take 02 off the first 2 digits of the code... I then find my current code is 00464

So to me that looks like the only digits that match the ROSS_TECH site are the last 6 and 4 for 6 cylinder turbo petrol.

Anyone any ideas?

Recode for warning lamps:

[Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Recode - 07]
Write down the existing coding for future reference.
Enter 5-digit code from below
[Do It!]

Look at the first two digits in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding.

00 - No available equipment
+01 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active
+02 - Seatbelt warning active
+04 - Washer fluid level warning active (may only work with pre-2000 models)
+16 - Navigation System (non-USA models)

Look at the third digit in the coding (Market version):

0 - "Germany" 24 hour clock
1 - "Rest of World" 24 hour clock
2 - "USA" 12 hour clock
3 - "Canada" 12 hour clock

Look at the fourth digit in the coding (Cylinders):

4 - 4-cylinder
6 - 6-cylinder

Look at the fifth digit in the coding (Distance impulse multiplier):

0 - TDI Engine (non-USA models)
2 - Non-turbo Gasoline engine
4 - Turbocharged engine

So, if you want to have Seatbelt warning and washer fluid warning only in a 1999 Canadian A4 2.8, (add 00+02+04 = 06),3,6,2 = 06362.

Sorry can't help.

As not too much of an aside, anyone know when pad wear sensor's get introdcued on the S4? I was surprised to learn my '98 car does no thave them.

Why dont you just join the wires on the wear sensor by the CV joint? My light came on, I brought the pads, went to change them, realised they were only 1/3 worn, so I put them back in and joined the wires to complete the circuit! Drove another 1k miles, got scared, then had front and rear pads changed ;)

The table on the page referred to is woefully out of date.

As you can see, coding of 00464 makes perfect sense for a UK S4 of MY 2000 or newer. Unfortunately, all the S4's of 2000 and newer had the brake pad wear sensors so there was no programing option for that anymore. The only solution is to fool the cluster by jumpering the wires.

Thanks for the response Uwe, looks like thats what I'll have to do then...

Looking at the wiki, if I make my code 02464 will I get seatbelt warning then?

Only if your car has the appropriate wiring to and switches in the seat belt buckles. If it doesn't, you may not get a warning, or get a warning all the time even when the belts are latched.

My guess is you don't have the necessary hardware.

Should only be one, S3 is front near side.

Yep both sides to do... I'll have another go @ fitting my Phaeton ducts when I do it, so not all bad...
