Lateral Acceleration Sensor - advice

Hi first post, so here goes.

After a quick diagnostic on my newly aquired 2000 S3 there is an entry for;
Lateral Acceleration Sensor - (G200)
Electrical Circuit Failure.

The result is a constant ESP light, (it has occasionally gone off, but it's on more than it's off...) no apparent problems with the drive, but then it's new to me ;)

I have been told the error appeared after a flat battery.
When we cleared the error with the VAG software - it came straight back.

I'm oceans (literally) away from an AUDI service center - so I'd like to get some idea's on possible causes before I order something that later proves not to be at fault.

Firstly where might this sensor be? ( I want to check any physical connections...)
Is there only one? ( I read a post that suggested their were two under the front seats..)

Any suggestions appreciated.

It's going to be somewhere near or next to the steering column, under the dash.

If you're a registered VAG-COM user, feel free to e-mail me for more details, but please note, I'm currently out of town exhibiting at a show.
