as far as i know if it's an immobilizer problem then it's got to be reset at the dealers as you need a security code. you can do it with vag-com i believe but apparantly trying to obtain the code is akin to the search for Jimmy Hoffa

A quick update - have been to the stealers and they have quoted me £51.50 to recode the key. Does this sound about right ? Sounds blooming expensive to me...... :(

To recode the transponder part of the key you will need the secret key code SKC.

AFAIK a 4 digit SKC was originally supplied with vehicles pre2002 as a scratch off panel. If youve got this 4 digit SKC then it can be done with Vag com http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/k ... digit.html

If you dont know this 4 digit SKC then youll have to ask the dealer to obtain the new 7 digit skc - there bound to charge for this as they have to access factory computer.
