Car not right (as usual)

Post by flashyg » Fri Jul 21, 2006 10:42 am

Can any one help?

Lots of logs on the fats discussion

1 why would my WOT fail to hit 100% until 3700rpm having fully opened at 2000rpm?

2 No boost leaks but lambdas reading -7. What could be causing this?

performance is not as it should be and I am well and truly , well not happy to put it mildly.

I cant get to mrc till next month.

Thanks for your help G

more fats logs.
I am very concerned. It may be my petrol so I will use a different supplier.
But I am puzzled.

Basically I am at WOT from 2k rpm but the logs show 100% at 3700.
Why is this is it bad fuel or is my TB Broken.
I re set it but it barley changed anything.

My fats are not good. My maf readings are not what they should be.
Maf and dvs are brand new boost if fine.

car is running -7 and -6 on lambdas but no boost leaks.
logged the egts not over 945 consistently.
absolutely no engine fault codes.
Car did pull 191% load and 364 maf from 6000 on words when running right.
Cannot understand reasons behind the drop , and poor fats,
Can any one help.

Thanks .

WOT is normal, the throttle is not supposed to be 100% open until 3500 RPM on an RS4.

Gordon, here is an extract from one of my FATS runs;

time rpm maf wot timing
595.73 3200 117.03 100 25.5
596.33 3520 198.08 100 15

597.55 4360 243.36 100 12
598.2 4800 273.83 100 15

600.31 6200 324.17 100 18
601.07 6600 348.72 100 21
601.82 7000 270.19 38.4 10.5

You can see that it was logging 100% WOT from 3200 rpm - just to confuse things!

Thanks Nige
Thanks Mihnea.

Any suggestions.
Maybe if I Log Block 2 this will show Injection timing which may show up a fuel pressure issue?
does fuel look OK?

Thanks guys I am so fed up with it.
You know what it is like constant effort cleaning fettering repairs but when you can identify the problem you want to :audibash:

Have you tried disconnecting your ECU, the reconnecting it - clear the usual power disconnected at pin XX code and re-calibrate your TB.

Are you calibrating via vag-com, following the ross-tech procedure ... http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/audiB5.html

Nige thanks for the support but Yes I have followed this. I will disconnect the ECU.
I think My issues must be related to the -7 s on the lambda control.
The cause is so hard for me to discover. Car has smelt like it is rich for quite some time now. What Can you do?

I am fresh out of ideas?

Any help appreciated I will re do ecu and maybe run stock. So sad. What else can I do!!! Cars can Hurt.

Help Appreciated.

Nige's throttle opens 100% from 2000 RPM because I've programmed it so it does that, Gordon's is MTM and this is why it doesn't open below 3500 (stock programming for throttle max opening).

Thanks Guys so so that explains that. Good to know this is normal.

Stupid as it may seem Ive got a cunning plan.

Next effort will be spark plugs.
I say stupid as I realise now I should have tried this before hand.
I had them changed 14k previously, spoke today with the mechanic he assured me they were changed but I feel this could be the cause of rich running.

Mihnea Nige what do you think , waste of time and money or good idea?

On the subject are the Bosch ones the same as the NGK and just as good, dealer sells NGK German Swedish sells Bosch half the price?

G

PS just thought I would share this with you, its a video taken of me whilst doing some logs on my own, u know how it is on the laptop whilst driving.

OK new idea, could it be fuel pressure regulator?

great news. my car is still pissi*g me off.
Changed fuel pressure reg . Now lambdas are not trimming to compensate for this component working out side its perfect position.

Lambdas went to -0.40 -0.8 - 0.2 -3.1 on a good boosted run.

when the car is revved gently and not boosted the part throttle readings adjust to -1ish

When re boosted the bank 2 readings go back up to -3 .

Got a crank case gasket leak for sure and oily film on bank 2 turbo side so this may be causing a slight loss.

Had gasket replaced 2months ago so having it re done.

This does not explain the considerable drop in performance figures I fell I am getting through nor the knocks on the knock sensors but at least I cam see more now the lambdas are just trimming for fuel correction and not a sloppy fuel regulator.

here are the knocks.
Strangely they occupy the 2 rear cylinders on both sides mostly.

Is this because these are extra hot , get more direct boost, is this most common in 25c temps.

As a result of the knocks mt Btdc timing is all over the show whilst on proper fuel, optimx.

56.15 3560 223.36 100 12
56.45 3800 234.22 100 12

60.61 6400 337.69 100 13.5
60.99 6640 342.67 100 19.5

in the past same fuel here was the story great timing building nicely and decent maf readings
574.11 4880 304.5 100 15.8
574.44 5120 305.83 100 16.5
574.79 5360 313.89 100 15.8
575.14 5640 326.06 100 15.8
575.5 5840 337.69 100 16.5
575.87 6120 345.69 100 17.3
576.25 6360 349.72 100 19.5
576.62 6560 363.19 100 21.8
577 6800 364.08 100 22.5
So my problem appears to be knocking on back cylinders then retarding possible small leak on bank 2 gasket and turbo. Hot weather not helping 25 - 30c

Does this add up to a loss of apx 50hp.?
Or tiny leak on gasket no issue , heat no issue , knocking will kill off this power quite easily?

Thanks g

I am concerned that my issues are related to pcb valve so went to vag but they will not sell as a part you have to buy whole spider.

Any one else had this issue and found the valve on its own?

Thoughts appreciated.
