Guys,

I ran vag com on my car the other day and done a search for fault codes and the following fault codes appeared

vag com alerts

DTC REsults
Address 01: Engine
17865 - Exhaust Gas Temp Sender 2 (G236): Open or short to Plus
P1457 - 35-00 - -

======================================
Address 55:Xenon Range
01538 - Motors for Headlight Reange Adjustment (V48) / V49
29-00 - Short to

I have searched the site but have not found the answers to the following questions. I am going to relace the gas temp sensor but does anybody know which side this refers to (near side or offside bank?)?

With the Xenon error code if the headlights are set up in the right position then I am assuming that this is not an issue? Is that correct?

Thanks,
Brad

According to SS198, G236 is passenger side, assuming yours is a RHD version.

Re: Xenons they should be fine, other drivers will soon let you know if there is a problem with them. Mos garages have a quick check chart on the wall you can drive up to to verify.

Key Gee,

Many thanks for the reply.

Yes it is a right hand drive model (UK car)so I guess this is the passenger side sensor. Has anybody replaced one of these before? Is it easy to access and is it likely to be hard to remove?

Thanks
Brad

Thanks S4woody.

I am based in Maidstone in Kent so not far away.

I will probrably get a mechanic friend of mine to do it just wondered how much work was involved for him and if I could give him any pointers to make it easier?

Waiting on a price from Vagparts at the moment for the sensor.

What are the implications of this faulty sensor?

Thanks,
Brad

I replaced my front near side Xenon sensor last week. Easy job, just take the wheel off and access is easy - got the part from Vag parts £25 instead of £55 from Audi. My Xenons now work again after being stuck on the minimum setting.

However - is yours the Xenon motor?

Thanks Kevin.

Assume that it is the sensor as well but hard to find a answer for the code. Assume could be both sensors as DTC states (V48) and V49 which I assume is the code for the sensors ?

I will add these to my list for vagparts ;0)

Thanks
Brad

V48 and V49 are the range control motors, so the fault is either in one of the motors, or the wiring between J431 (the control unit) and the motor. When you first turn your headlights on you should find that the beams come up from the rest position, taking about a second - does this happen? Is it only one light which does this?

Not sure I think that the lights rise slightly ( Iwill confirm tonight), and the offside seems slightly higher than the nearside (about 1/2 inch or so ). Where is the control unit located? If the beams are within the MOT settings is this anything to worry about, and if not within the settings then can they be set manually?

Thanks for the info on the sensor removal.

Thanks
Brad

Also changed side light bulb on offside a month or so ago, is it possible there are any wires located nearby for the light motor that I could have knocked off?

I'm reading this thread with interest as my headlights were pointing at the ground when I collected it the other week. I guess its a connection issue as the car was fine before that.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I had the same problem and replaced the near side fron sensor (fault code 776). Lights now work fine.
