28 at the 116.24 timestamp and 45 at the 120.44 timestamp Dave. Feel free to edit this and add it into my FATS post above ...

Loving the bold type Ad ... :biggrin3: .... what are you trying to say I wonder .. ?

On a serious note though: shows the difference in cooling capability between the FMIC and SMICs - I go from 28 to 45 in 3.65 s - you go from 18 to 26 in the same time (give or take 0.02 seconds  ) - your high temperature is lower than my low temperature!

Shoud mean we're pretty well matched now on the road Julian (apart from my .02sec advantage :D ). We need another go up the test track as last time you were 3-4 car lengths ahead of me (if our brakes can handle it!! ).

Nice figures there boys

It will be interesting to see how my IATs compare to yours (AWE ICs for those who don't know) somewhere in between in theory - I just need to do a FATs run in similar conditions, ie witch's t1t...!

I don't have the logs to hand, but I seem to recall that those who did 2 or 3 runs the IATs were progressively increasing (as you might expect).

You'd expect the best FATs run to be the one with the lowest IAT range, but I don't think that was always the case :?

OK, here goes guys, done today ambient temp 11C, with David on the VAG-COM button :

7.85 4120 <-- below 4200
8.48 4600 <-- above 4200

11.29 6360 <-- below 6500
12.05 6720 <-- above 6500

FATS: 3.63 <-- Time in Seconds from 4200-6500

IATs : 25 at the 7.85 timestamp, and 32 at the 12.05 timestamp (peaked at 35 a bit later)

So the difference between RS4, FMIC, and AWE ICs is "not a lot" if this little bit of empirical evidence is anything to go by... (S4TAN, Ads4, CliveH)

For reference, the IAT ranges were :-

RS4 (S4TAN) : 28-45
AWE (CliveH) : 25-32
FMIC (Ads4) : 18-26

Pretty much to be expected, but negligible effect on FATs times.

The AWE SMICs look like a good option.

Anyone got any handy links to prices? Are there UK suppliers?

Nice work Clive. Loving the empirical evidence...

And nice FATS too mate - good stuff. David manning the vag-com ...? Thought you'd sent the little git to his room for spilling the beans on your half-century!

I'm liking the idea of the AWE SMICs as oppose to an FMIC - you get a much lower rise in IATs than I do with the RS4 coolers (and I think that's how you got your top-end power figures higher than mine at the RR day) but I'm betting they cost serious bucks ... (what doesn't on these old f*cking panzers!? )

Interesting results Clive. As you say, nothing in the three sets of times at all. FMIC is obviously good at keeping IATs low and thus good for figures on the rolling road but no particular gain on the real road and in the FATS times. I'd like to see the differences on a hybrid set up running 500+ though to see if any advantages were magnified. Don't think I'll be going that route for a fair while though!!

I don't know if there are any UK distributors, but if you import directly from AWE, you'd be looking at around £900 ($1,400 plus shipping, import duty, VAT).

I was lucky to pick mine up cheaply from an ex-forum member who never got around to fitting them to his S4.

(David was already in his room - playing on RS246...!)
