DIS mpg reading - making it accurate

1) Monitor and record your average real and displayed mpg. This might take a few tankfuls depending on your driving.
2) Calculate the average discrepancy as a percentage.
Discrepancy = average DIS mpg x 100
--------------------
average real mpg
3) Round this figure to the nearest 5
4) Adapt (function 10) channel 03 of the instrument cluster (address 17) to this figure.
My average discrepancy was 108% so I adapted to 110. Current average discrepancy is now 101%.

Very interesting and informative Dippy, thanks. (In case anyone's wondering why there was such a delayed reaction on my part, it's just been cross-referenced in another post!)
In order to get actual average mpg, miles driven is easy enough (as long as you remember to reset the counter of course), but gallons consumed is the tricky bit - obviously full tank to full tank, but how much is consumed from tank to tank? I struggle to get 55 litres in mine (on "empty" 0 miles tank, running on fumes) whereas the spec says the tank holds 62 litres...

Clive, you just need to record your mileage between fills and how much you fill up with. So for example:
Range - refill - real mpl - real mpg - DIS mpg - discrepancy
300 miles - 55 litres - 5.46 - 24.82 - 26.9 - 108%
280 miles - 53 litres - 5.28 - 24.00 - 25.7 - 107%
285 miles - 50 litres - 5.70 - 25.91 - 27.8 - 107%
300 miles - 59 litres - 5.08 - 23.12 - 24.5 - 106%
295 miles - 56 litres - 5.27 - 23.96 - 25.0 - 104%
The average discrepancy for this is 106% so the best adaption value would be 105
