Car dead after connecting charger wrong

Hi, I feel stupid writing this post but really need advice. I decided to charge the battery using the front connections under the bonnet. Unfortunately I put leads on the wrong way from the charger and heard a click. Now there is no life whatsoever when I turn on the ignition. I have checked the fuses in main box and all ok. The charger fuse which is 15a did not blow. Please help
