No response from controller

Hi,
I'm trying to turn up the volume on the parking sensors but when I try to go into the relevant controller (76 park assist ) all I get is "no response from controller", ignition is on . Any ideas folks , for what it's worth I get the same response in all categories under the heading 'electronics 1'

C'mon Pete, give us a clue. OBD port been disconnected?

Na not that , I suspect it's because I'm a tight bast**d and really need to buy the real deal cable. Was trying to avoid the fanging from 'proper users' about freeloaders like me.
Promising to buy proper cable pay my dues and expecting it will then work !

Thanks for the offer but I really need to get one and will just have to spend the money. There's no massive rush as it's only the volume on the reversing sensors
