Damn Skoda Fabia's!

A friend at work was having a problem with his Skoda's temperature sensor/dial and asked if I could have a go a look at it for him.
After plugging in both my Gendan code reader and VCDS laptop, nothing seemed to connect. It was only then that I found out about that fitting an aftermarket radio shorts out a certain pin on the OBD connectors.
So, both my Gendan and my VCDS cable are now kapput.
So more details on the problem
