Vag-Com

Post by jersmith » Tue May 29, 2007 11:33 am

Hi

I have just bought a 2003 RS6 Avant (metallic grey). Collected it last week and so far I am very happy with it. It was a close decision between the RS6 and an E39 M5 but the RS6 won in the end.

I am interested in buying the Vag-Com software. Can anyone tell me which version I should get for the RS6? is it best to buy it direct from the US? (I live in Switzerland).

Any other suggestions?

thanks for your help

James

Buy the current interface cable and download the latest software. Updates are free if you have the cable (it acts as a dongle). I have an old HEX-COM serial cable, this works fine with the RS6 but not with some of the newer cars. I will have to upgrade for the New RS6 ;-)

I use build 704 of VAG-COM at the moment. If you have someone in Switzerland that sells the cable locally then buy from them, otherwise buy direct from the US.

best to buy direct - get the latest cable as they are faster to synch.

a great addition for the owner, but you will also need the bentley manual.

Indeed, the Bentley Manual is excellent. I also use ETKA and ELSA when needed.

Many thanks for the replies. I will order it today. I'm hoping that I won't need it for troubleshooting - just for playing around :)

I don't know, I suppose you could try Ebay. I can't find any official suppliers on the net, silly really.

Cheers

ETKA is the electronic parts catalogue for VAG group cars, including Volkswagen, SEAT and Audi. It is produced by LexCom. ETKA stands for Elektronischer Teilekatalog.

ELSA is the electronic service manual for all VAG group cars.

Can us mere mortals get hold of these at all?

I have an old copy of ETKA (version 6) but would like a newer copy, would be nice to have ELSA too.
