R8 tested at Croft

Post by mwcltd » Mon Jun 12, 2006 2:04 pm

On the weekend of the 3rd June, Audi had exclusive use of the Croft circuit near Darlington. They arrived mob handed with two covered trucks and there were about 50 security personnel present. No one could get near the circuit but they did leave the used tyres at the circuit. These were Gallardo/F430 size. From the noise and other bits of information they had both R8's there, V8 and V10.

I have also been reliably informed that Audi's testing circus also spent a day at an airfield somewhere in the SOuth of England testing the same vehicles.

'so i have heard' the v8 is same unit as in the new rs4 engine putting out 450 bhp .

I predict with my glass ball that audi will do a limited run of rs4+ avant only with this output!!
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

450 PS means we got c444bhp from a n/a 4.2 V8 w/estimated kerb weight around 1600kg stil breaks the magic 100 bhp per litre marker (c106) mid-engined, latest version of quattro drive, and all the other gubbins...

Learned yesterday talking to some Audi Uk friends that the R8 is over here at Milbrook in August for insurers to look at for setting the insurance rating. I asked if I could get in, but was confronted with a flat NO. Even their mobile phones will be confiscated. and 50 security guys on tap.
