Right that's my mind made up then, it looks stunning from those shots, I had mixed views on the silver one's i've seen, I was'nt sure about those shiney bits behind the doors.

Dealer rang me today as he knows I am interested in a B7 RS, he offered me a test drive which I will take him up on, but as we all know allocation sold out for this year, next Jan he said for next batch.
Anyway, I enquired about an RS4 Plus, he reckons it wil be over 18 months away, but did not dismiss the idea of it.

so I discussed R8 options, he said in typical Audi fashion he was not confident of any release date especially anything this year.

As for Engines he was confident on the V8 (RS4) base model and fairly sure on V10, but not sure how much power, so I must just have to trundle down and reserve my place for the V10, I missed out on the early RS4's so need to make sure on this one. :)

No. It's mid engined so too far to run pipework.

Turbocharged mid engined cars are a packaging nightmare.

I'm struggling to see the benefits of going for the V10 of the S8/S6 as it will probably offer no power to weight advantage over the V8 from the RS4.

What do people reckon the V8 version will weigh? The RS4 saloon weighs 1650kg (wet) excluding driver. Will the R8 be better? If so then it might make 100mph in under 10s (RS4 10.5s).

Also could we see this in the UK as early as spring next year?

Just checked the Gallardo. With its V10 engine it is 1430kg dry so about 1550kg wet. That's not bad. How much more will the Audi weigh?

The V10 is over 500bhp, the fsi v8 will never get anywhere near that and with a weight penalty of 40kg at most it seems a no-brainer.

The origins of the engines are so different. One is volume production, low cost, run of the mill. The other is low volume supercar from birth.

The V8 R8 will need to be significantly faster than the B7 RS4 I reckon, how would Audi explain a high tech supercar that can't out perform a compact estate?

If the V10 is going to be the full blown 500PS ish version rather than the weaker versions in the S6/S8 then I agree (as an aside I don't know why they didn't put the RS4 engine in the S6 and charge a few grand less).

I posted the comment about weight because of my concerns viz a viz the RS4. Surely they will need to make the V8 R8 at least 100kg lighter than the RS4. Mind you the weight distribution of the R8 will help the standing start stats. Without a weight advantage who's going to pay £20k+ more for the R8 over the RS4?
