Does anyone know the final Spec on the R8

Post by Bigpockets » Wed Feb 01, 2006 10:43 am

I have an R8 on order, but i keep reading different specs, especially engine capacity.

Are there any members that can throw some light on this subject.

I saw that m8 but it conflicts with the new "What Car" write up.

I need to read them both again, its probably me.

Either/or would be nice Bob I'm feeling your vibe. I reckon if you have an R8 yer gonna need a load lugger too, which you already have. Completely different animals with regards practicality/versatility. Golf bag in the boot would be a clincher for me.

Still love to know more about this. Thinking about switching my S4 Avant for an RS4 Avant but the S4 is quick enough day to day, only worth £20k and has lots of life left in it. Therefore an R8 would be good as a high days car but what engine? If its just the RS4 engine and it weighs about the same as an RS4 then what's the point? Hopefully it will be a c480PS V10 and no more than 1600kg to give 300PS/tonne....and no more than 911 C4S money (£75k). Then its worth a look.

My dealer says it's all speculation at present - he mentioned a 'race car for the road' a bit like AM did, and a 'proper' car with either V8 or V10... All news welcome, I'm currently poised between this and new RS6 for my next car, or if buisiness aint so good, a used RS4 B7.

Rumour has it that there is another coupe near launch, somewhat larger than the LeMans. Maybe this will be fitted with the V10

The R8 is less than year away in the UK.

I'm reckoning on the RS4 engine and gearbox and a wet kerb weight (ex driver) of 1600kg. I'm hoping for no more than £70k...lets wait and see.

If the 'cheaper' R8 can meet these specs then I doubt I would bother going for a V10 one.
