Filling some time with a nosey round the DVLA Cherished Reg's website I spotted a banner stating they'd released a whole load of R plates, including R8. Had a quick look & over 2k R8 *** options priced at a very reasonable £250-299 including fees which ain't too shabby for a single digit plate.
