To be fair I drove an AMG GTS in Switzerland and loved it. I think there is more variation between each car built than we would expect. I would really prefer another British car so will try an F Type again next year, maybe the one I drove just had moody steering, no way they are all like that !!!

Having just been out in a gt3 then an r8 Gt straight after I would jump in the Audi all day long, I used to love 911's
But they don't do much for me now, R8 is just more special than the pork

Interesting. Where you driving them or pax?

Personally without driving either I'd pick the GT3 in a heartbeat, but some of that may me down to the likely financial implications.

Always great to see different opinions/tastes displayed & no doubt they're both epic cars.

Likewise. R8 just isn't special. It's a nice car makes a good noise but it's too much of an Audi. And that's before you get to the customer service.

R8/570/911 sit above it.

The F straddles the Cayman and 911, and therefore offers a good proposition between those.

But it will definitely fall short of cars with £100k+ entry points and there is nothing surprising in that!
Agree, but I'd take an F-Type over a Cayman & likely entry 911 all day long. Stunning cars.

I don't agree, you have Porsche tinted glass on, the gt3 is overrated, yeh they hold money well, but the v10 in an r8 GT with a capristo is just amazing, the build quality is every bit as good as the pork to.

We'll have to disagree. Sat in a lot of both and the build quality doesn't compare.

It's not just about the noise.....

That's the beauty of Forums, the whole point is not always to agree as if that was the case we'd all be driving round in Golf R's.

What does throw me is to what you're comparing as you say R8 GT so you mean the Mk1 R8 & then which GT3 variant are you pitching it against? My guess is not the current 991 GT3?

No denying the engine in the current V10+ is something to behold & that's with just the Audi Sports exhaust, so i can only guess that the previous model R8 in GT form with a Capristo would sound at least almost as good. Having said that you could argue the same being applied to the GT3 & thus chucking a nice Akro or the like on it would balance things up a little. I only ever drove a few Mk1 V10+'s, never a GT with an aftermarket exhaust so not heard one in the wild.

I think the point regarding build quality isn't meant to indicate the R8 (new or old) is going to fall apart, it's just the cabin is very similar to most other Audi's which doesn't make the whole experience all that special, especially when now you'd be looking at spending £140k for a Plus. Nothing wrong with that but it won't be to everyones taste as sat inside without the engine running you could be in a TT or an A4, that said when you fire that engine up it all changes & i was very close to going the V10+ route so i'd like to think they are indeed fantastic cars.

It was a 991 gt3, think it was 2014 model and had buckets and a cage and the R8 was the mk1 GT which is classba's one, had the semi slicks on it too.
Phantom Black C6 RS6 - ex Classba battleship
Mugello C6 RS6 5.0 TFSi AVANT - Gone.

If you have any quieries for interior or exterior LED's then get in touch.

Mk1 R8 interior wasn't great to start with, it's not a patch on 991!

There isn't a Mk2 R8 GT. Though I notice the first limited edition has appeared. Not selling?!

Different strokes for different folks innit.

All I can say is... how can one make such quick judgements without owning or driving one. The GT variant compared to the regular Mk-1 V10 or V10 plus and even the MK-2 V10 Plus IMO is night and day better but then I'm biased. The Porker 991 GT3 is nice but I much rather stay put... sometimes it's not all about how much cars cost and saleability etc etc. :bigblink:
Too much power is barely enough.

Your quote is spot on - It is funny how driving other things make you realise quite how good what you have is:

911 GTS - Non-Turbo, revs like crazy, mental to drive fast but has back seats and is reasonably discrete (mine is all black)

AMG GTS - Lots of noise but otherwise just another E-class (sorry!); long time since I have been that disappointed in a car.

R8 V10+ I think the cabin of the new one is quite special and honestly better than the one in the Porsche. But, hardly any storage space for bags when travelling (which I do a lot) and I think the long distance cruise will be less tiring in the Porsche. But I have one for the weekend in a couple of weeks to drive alongside the Porsche so will do some real world testing. I had one of the last model V10+s for a test drive weekend a year or so ago and was able to scare myself silly quite quickly...

I have an option on a 911 Turbo S for March delivery but honestly my GTS is around £100k and the Turbo S will be at £150k and I am not so sure it is 50% better.

I think the most fun I have is when musing over what to buy and when, test driving is a great pastime and as long as I buy something expensive once a year the dealers seem quite happy to indulge me. Quite an expensive hobby though....
