How to test if the clutch needs replacing on R-Tronic R8?

Post by SteveG » Fri May 06, 2016 9:51 am

Guys, I will be going to view my 08 car at the dealer by Monday. The car will have a warranty, but wear and tear items won't be covered. Everyone thinks that clutches would probably be excluded. I need to therefore find a sure way to test the clutch is OK when I see it. How do you check the clutch is OK on a automated manual (R-Tronic ) ?? On a manual car, I would normally see if the car pulls away in 4th gear from standstill.

Cheers

Scan it with VCDS and it will tell you the clutch wear and how many launches it's had.
Too much power is barely enough.

Thanks for the response..

Unfortunately I don't have that software.

I was told that the R- Tronic doesn't have Launch Control capability. Does it have LC ?

Lol. Not according to member doodlebug who confirmed it doesn't in his post earlier. I'm confused now. Is there any literature on the R- tronic LC feature that you could point to by any chance please ?

I couldn't find any. I will ask the dealer again also, as I have a feeling you are correct

Thanks

My bad. I didn't think R-Tronic had launch.

Thanks for the video and the confirmation Guys. Funnily, I saw that video the other day, it actually helped convince me that there was NO launch control as the car is spinning it's wheels when trying to launch :)

I have now found a 2007 Owners manual online which talks about the LC feature and I'll show to the dealer as proof if they still deny it's existance.

Cheers
