Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
To keep the threads tidy, am starting this one in a vain attempt to stop me getting a ragged but gorgeous ex-Audi R8 V10+ (http://tinyurl.com/pl5ln6x).

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
If it helps I am down to
A 911 Targa 4S
A 911 Carrera GTS
A V10+
All around £93k all sub 7,000 miles.
Test drove an FType yesterday, that is a £40k car in terms of fit and finish and my PS3 handheld controller gives more steering feel: how they sell them for £105k ever is beyond me.
I think the Porsche will win but will know after today's test drive

PS I drove the GTS two weeks ago. Totally brilliant and if my wife would let me spend £30k more I would have one.

Are you looking at 991.2? Worth a drive, I was mighty impressed.
Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
I didn't want to wait so looking at these which are .1

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
But 911 holds money well; new Targa 4S .2 is £110k to my spec less £5k from broadspeed. 1.5 years old is coming in at £95k. So £10k more for a brand new one! I may order and wait

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
On the R8 I am a tart for gadgets so the aged interior of the old one is putting me off. I think in a year when there is new shape v10+ stock about these £95k 2014 R8s will be down at £70k. Audi have the pricing of the new one wrong; £150k specced up! Too close to exotica. The launch cars will be at £105ish in a year I reckon. IMHO obviously

I found Targa a bit of a bloater, rear space slightly compromised over a coupe if that matters.
Agreed re GFV, they are strong and new car likely to come with better finance so not as much in it. Check broad speed though, it was still showing the 991.1 cars when I looked recently.
Agree re R8 pricing, it's madness.

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
Agree Targa a bit too many pies. But best looking 911 I think aside from Turbo. Still drives great although not such a go kart as V10+

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
This great 997.2 GTS example would be my choice - I'd replace the spoiler with the Sport Classic's ducktail version though.

That is a ridiculous price for a five year old, non GT3, non Turbo 997?!

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
Naturally aspirated, RWD, manual gearbox (no auto blip), wide body, traditional steering feel and run out edition = £££££'s
Put it into a car collection and it will probably make money given time. A similar mileage 997 GT3 would be over £100k.

Re: Viable / Acceptable R8 alternatives
My next door neighbour recently took delivery of a new targa S
It's a lovely looking car, and imho much better screwed together than an R8
