I'm no stranger to topping up every few thousand miles in the RS4, I'm just checking that this is just as routine in the V10?

Cheers.

No...this is very alarming as excessive oil usage is a sure sign that your engine is about to detonate!

Yes.

Owners exhibit a need to ask an abundance of questions to fellow enthusiasts, when deep down that they really know the answer. Most call it, new-born syndrome.

Relax...just enjoy it. Then get a Capristo and enjoy it some more

My oil level light flicked on today that's all so thought I'd ask. The car is due a service mind and thought I'd just ask the question.

Your probably right though with the unnecessary questions ha. I'll take your advice :)

I'm sure you have mentioned that your car had gone in for a service the other day????

I have not topped up any oil between oil changes. Did you not noticed all the issues prior to handing your cash over?. Dohhhh :biggrin3:

I did mate your right.

Trying to keep it brief, an engine check light came on when I was driving home. The dealer gave me a cheque to cover the service cost which I knew was due but the check light raised new concern.

When I took it to audi for the check light and service, he told me that there were a lot of old codes on there and they spent a couple of hours going through the car and gave it a health check. They deleted the codes, kept the car and said they'd take it out and clock about 50 miles on the car in case anything came back on. They then advised me to use the car as much as possible within my 30 days in case I wish to return the car before spending any of my own money. Fair do's I said.

I'm going to use the car every day for the next couple of weeks. I've already done 200 miles since the car was at audi and the chap in there told me that if the light is going to come back on, it's likely not to take very long to do so.

So far so good.

OK fair play. I am shocked that the car had a lot of old fault codes.... find out when and where was it last serviced so you can check with Audi what was done and problems with the car. Did your local Audi advised you of what the old fault codes were?

I was surprised myself too. There are 3 audi stamps in the book so it's up to date with that apart from the one due and I do have records of engine check light codes on paper. It suggests the car has had a few problems in the past but on test drive the car was perfect and didn't have any reason to suspect anything was wrong or hadn't been rectified. We did just over 20 miles and gave the car a good drive before I agreed on the sale.

The joys of used cars...

How has it been since Chris?

These don't use oil to be fair, but doesn't mean the level wasn't low to begin with.

Cheers Ricky

Hi Ricky.

The car has been fine since I've had it back. I've put on nearly 1000 miles since it was in there getting the codes erased. So far so good!

The oil however as suggested could have been low anyway. I've read conflicting things over the net. Some people say their V10 drinks the oil and top up every couple of thousand miles but then others saying theirs doesn't ever need topping up.

I'm not worried anyway. I'll have the thing serviced soon enough and will take it from there :)

Hello Chris,

Thats good news, it does sound as if it was just a bit low to begin with.

The V10's are very good and don't normally drink oil, if they do its pointing to an underlying issue.

Shame you are so far away or I would happily service it for you and check the breather system over to make sure it is not breathing heavy etc.

Cheers Ricky
