My first R8

Post by chris_m » Sat Dec 05, 2015 2:04 am

Well, impulsively I bought one today. It's a 2011 R8 V10

My choices were a Ferrari F430, the R8 V10 and the 911 turbo. The Ferrari was my first choice but just ended up a little more than justifiable based on the example in stock where I went. The 911 turbo appealed because it's a little more reliably tuned and day to day suited, had the 2 back seats (for what they are worth) but was my third choice. The R8 appealed because of the na V10 and every day reliability. Plus, it looks way better than the 911, not to be confused with a Cayman or a Boxster or the other 100,000 porsches in my town :P

First impressions, it's a phenomenal car. Coming from the b7 rs4, I thought I was going to be hard pleased. My mate had a V8 R8 and was really disappointed in it. The V10 in contrast is a complete different car. I love the thing already :)

Enough babble anyway and just hope I made the right choice.

Thanks mate. I probably paid over the odds but i'm really happy with the car so far apart from the tyre pressure light that won't go away. Engine check light came on too so not a great start. I was at audi this morning to book in. Should be covered under warranty I hope.

Lovely car but it's not a GT. It's a regular V10 R-Tronic with 525bhp.
Too much power is barely enough.

Insurance are always wrong.... make sure you select the correct car.

My GT coupe came up as a Spyder lol.

I'll have to confirm this with them because it would probably void the insurance. Damn, there was me thinking I'd hit lucky haha. Thought it wasn't badged right. The gt have red calipers also don't they?

Yes sort the insurance out. The GT have so much that differs from a regular V10/ Plus.

is that CF engine bay OEM? doesn't look it, but could be the light

V10 is a great car.

come down a lot in price over last 6 months.

had the chance of buying a black manual V10 with Buckets from Audi for £52k on the weekend I bought my F-TYPE, but after 7 of them, I was bored stiff.

To be honest mate, I have no idea. I'd like to know mind but sometimes I'm a little careless. The cars pretty clean and has 21k miles and can tell you I paid a fair bit more than 52k.

depends on how much you buy it for.
personally, having followed the market for 4 years, I would not pay more than £60k for one. Then you are looking a more or less zero depreciation.
Of course buy it from a dealer and you have to pay for their profit
