That's beyond desperate! That model cannot be sustained.

My general concern with Mac is that they are throwing all these models out, but last time I looked their profits weren't too healthy and the F1 team isn't awash with folk wanting to sponsor it.

Are they trying too hard?
I do dislike Mclaren throwing too many new cars out into the market( one per year so they've planned) making old ones kind of cheap... Take the 650S for example, they have already announced the replacement for next year making currently 650S owners want to move theirs. I've read that in the states, up to 100k USD discount can be had for a new 650S and dealers are even willing to swap seats and wheels etc etc just to make the deal happen. Now, that sounds bloody desperate to me.

ATEOTD, the 650S, 12C and the 570s are great cars just need McLaren to sort out there ways in promoting cars and not to kill their own market scaring off customers that could loose so much in depreciation.
If you get a spare few hours, there's a very interesting thread on PH by a chap who goes by the name of Flemke, who's currently in the process of opening a law suit against mclaren about broken promises and reduced value
The short version is that he bought a P1 based on there being limited numbers promised by Ron Dennis himself, only for them then to launch the P1 GTR and then assist a local company in making them road legal. He then recently bought a 675LT based on them telling him 'coupe only' and 'limited to 500' only for them to say they're now producing another 500 or so in spider form
He comes across as a very knowledgable chap, and for years has been modifying and documenting through PH his own McLaren F1, but now seems royally P'd off with MCL

Holy crap that's customer brand loyalty to rival Audi's!

As if I wasn't keen anyway, I'm now completely put off.

It appears Maclaren thinks that selling road cars is like F1 where you need a continuous stream of new products all the time.
Ultimately this will damage the brand over the coming years if it continues the way it does.
Possibly, although I cannot see many 570s being sold for anything close to 140k. And we're yet to see what 991.2 Turbo brings, that's going to be a lot of car for 140k.
yep the 991.2 Turbo should be an interesting car when it lands and i think you're looking at 160-170k for the 570 with all mod cons.

I do think you could drive a 911/R8 most days of the week and you might get a few glances but you could blend in-ish. I think for me that's the appeal, i don't want anything that's too shouty. Where as that 570, even with the funny back end is getting you get noticed a lot more.
I'm more in the 911/R8 camp. id go as far as to say that a 458 (especially in London) would be less noticeable, will be interesting to see when they hit the road what their presence is like.

I can't make my mind up about the new R8 look, my initial thought was that the old one looked better but I'm reserving judgement until I see one in the flesh. I'm also wondering whether to wait for the 991.2 TTS but either way it will take quite something to get me to part with my current 911. It is the first car I've had where I just didn't really want anything else.. not even something twice the price.

2015+ R8 Picture/Colour thread

Post by doodlebug » Fri Dec 18, 2015 7:58 pm

A bit odd given that the new Turbo S is about to land. This takes the on-paper 0-62 down to 2.9 and we know the outgoing car was hitting numbers two or three tenths under.

Price differential is very misleading. Turbo S is fully loaded. R8 is not. Spec'd R8 is 150k. Turbo S, if anything is slightly cheaper and it's a far nicer place to sit. I'm not convinced by the new dash in the R8.
