I still don't see the justification behind spending £10k on what a calibration certificate should give you. Even taking the car to Millbrook wouldn't cost 1/10th of that.

The whole story appears a bit fishy to me
Not sure what they'd get from testing the same camera probably months later as a decent defence could then pull apart the case using time and condition issues

Maybe this is the media not letting the truth get in the way of a good story and there's more to it than meets the eye

Prosecution costs. Some corporate lawyers charge £1200 per hour (billed every 6mins). Public prosecutors aren't as pricey but still ain't cheap. Expert witness are anywhere from 175 to 500s per hour. Adds up real quick when everyone wants a ride in the R8...

You're most probably right. There's certainly more to the story than 'man gets caught speeding, man contests it in court, man gets 11 grand fine'

There must be literally thousands of cases each year in the UK that are contested in court based on the accuracy of the measuring equipment, and they don't all end up with the court hiring a car and testing it against the prosecuting evidence equipment at a test track

Yep, his fine was 695 quid... paying the other sides court costs was his pennants for contesting, very badly, and wasting everyone's time.
This is good though, as in life, some people are here just to serve as examples of how not to do something.
