V8 or v10

Post by luffenham1 » Sun Jul 28, 2013 10:29 pm

Right guys.

Here's a question for all you people lucky enough to own an R8

Which is best. V8 or V10?

Has to be manual, and forget the price difference for this little exercise.

After owning a rs4 and rs6, r8 is the next stage for me. You could say I have had both engines already but not in that car.

I'm thinking the v8 is the better on due to sound, less weight and with a tune from mrc, just as quick as the v10.

Looking forward to the result, getting bored with the diesel already after 3 days and need a second car quick as the garage is empty.

V10. Sounds better. Far far FAR quicker. Good choice going for manual.

Completely wrong.

Night and day different.

V8 is slow as hell, remap will give minimal gains, weight difference is like 20/40kg or something and have you heard a V10 with a capristo?!

V10 is the only way to go if its even a consideration.

V8 is great, if you can't go above £50k, but if you can afford a V10 you'd be foolish not to.

enough said....if you can go for the V10, do it

I could prob stretch to the R8 V8, but cannot really see why when i have the same motor in the Rs4 and it's more "useable" everyday....not that you really need to consider that, but think u get my point.

Just bought a V10 to replace my RS4, I think I'd have felt slightly short changed if hopping from an RS4 to an R8 V8.. V10 as above is a total different kettle of fish and sounds glorious! Mine's Daytona with black and manual. In my opinion the perfect combo!

Sadly the RS4 will now have to go, I must say I was struggling to know what to replace it with as it's a tough car to beat and it will be dearly missed. I assume by your username you could well be in Rutland?! If so I'm there every few weeks so could show you..

Interested to know if a supercharged (single SC) R8 V8 would be better as the SC RS4 tends to post pretty much the same times as the V10 on sprints and the upgrade would surely still mean less money than the V10 without being too much for the car to handle.

Well, its a V10 and a manual for me. Not too sure on the colour but white maybe.

Yep, OL55, I'm in Rutland, owner of The Coach House Inn on A6121 in South Luffenham. When you are around next, it would be great to have a look and your car. Let me know and I make sure I'm in that day.

Pistonheads here I come!!!!!!!!!!

I've dragged a SC V8 vs. My std V10 and the V10 was marginally quicker.

That's cool, did you do a few or was it a one off DK?

Thought it would be close with what the RS4 SC was posting at GTI he had a couple of low 12's and mid to late 11's. Figured an R8 with the same set up would be fractionally quicker with its weight being less and a greater power shift when needed.

Still loving the sound of the Capristo, will get to hear Daves this weekend too :D

I've got a V8, and while I love it to bits it's not really that fast. My 911 C2S was quicker.....Saving hard to for two more cylinders...... NIce pub by the way went there in my RAF days
