Looking at R8 V8's second hand as I cant afford a new one or a V10 (they are over twice the price in Aus vs UK).
I want a manual but they are very scarce and hard to match other specs , kms etc with my price range.
what are the autos like to drive in a spirited manner given they are single clutch autos? do they lose much against the manuals? will i be disappointed and wish I had been more patient and just sweated till the manual came up?
do they have inherent service issues with the auto box & all that power?
has anyone owned both that can give me an opinion
thanks

Re: R8 V8 manual vs auto - advice wanted
I prefer a manual (I've had V8 man, V10 man and now have V10 RT)
RT is horribly clunky around town and I miss the sweet action of the click clack manual (one of the best ever)
But when you are gunning it or tracking it, I prefer the RT as the rev match downshift is sweet and you can keep two hands on the wheel and keep the car settled.

Had V8 manual and now V10 RT.
The manual is lovely but I truly prefer the RT. I drives like a manual if you drive it as such, its no STronic but if you 'learn' it, you get the best of both worlds imho.

Re: R8 V8 manual vs auto - advice wanted
Tried a few autos before the manual and they are so different. The manual makes you grin from ear to ear, fantastic gearbox...the auto is a bit clunky in my opinion...Now have a V8 manual and loving it....just need to save some more to upgrade to a V10 !!
Re: R8 V8 manual vs auto - advice wanted
Thanks guys I think you've confirmed what I suspected that in the V8 the manual is the best option as obviously thr RT is a different animal altogether and not available in my price range
