light and strong Audi R8 V8
Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
Hi All
My R8 V8 has 1640 kg car license and the weighing station has also confirmed.
The R8 V10 has 1685Kg with full 70L tank > GT 1585Kg

Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
So tom are you saying it weights 1400 without the engine?
996 C4S, B8 RS4, CBR600RR & a little ZXR400
Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
Hi
The R8 GT weighs 100 kg less by lighter battery, bucket seats, lighter flooring, lighter sound insulation inside and outside (back wall to the engine), ceramic brakes, lack Gear Unit oil coolers, carbon side blade, lack of bitumen drone mats, lighter boot tray, lighter heat shields exhaust system , easier cardan tunnel plate, tailgate carbon, Makrolon rear window and partition window , lighter exhaust system, rear grid of magnesium, lighter front windows and on little things.

Phew. I thought this thread was going to get even stranger if we started talking about car weights minus the big heavy engine! I recon I could save at least 800kgs from my c6 and I know it handle better without the engine

Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
Great info Tom although I'm aware of the reduction particulars but you have shed off well over 200 kg.... surely the carbon hood alone doesn't contribute 100 kg of the reduction?.Speedr8 wrote:Hi

Too much power is barely enough.

Hi
In addition to the built-R8 GT parts in my V8, the following changes have been carried out.
Even lighter battery, very little exhaust system, very light rims and tires, missing subwoofer, lack of soundproofing mats
(back wall to the engine) no drive for the front wheels, 700 screws made of aluminum and titanium, no secondary air pump motor,
no filter activated carbon gasoline ( AKF ), carbon front hood, no soundproofing mats front room, lighter RS5 exhaust manifold,
Seats Recaro Sportster, and so on.

Hi
further facilitate the parts of the vehicle
Performed stabilizer rear axle Lamborghini, Lamborghini rear drive shafts (hollow), no trunk tray, no hand tools,
carbon engine compartment linings, brake booster Aluminum, H & R suspension aluminum, Titanium exhaust tips Akropovic
and other relief by hand.

Car porn to the nth degree!
This is actually a very interesting thread. Going to be really interesting to see it all finished off.
Tom, what's been the hardest part so far that you'd not expected?

Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
The car is really butchered IMO. NOT good.
Too much power is barely enough.

Hi
where is this R8 bungled?
if I had not named the changes here, you would not see that at all.

Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
It's a good looking car, ditching the 4 wheel drive I would say isn't the best idea
Re: light and strong Audi R8 V8
IMO he's made a trackday special... minus the cage. Nothing wrong with that and I admire that commitment. Although I'm not sure switching a car designed to be AWD to RWD would help with vehicle dynamics. And before you go citing the Lamborghini LP550-2 as a comparative example - that car had more significant changes than Tom has done including new ESP, not to mention the muscle of Lamborghini's R&D behind it to get the calibration right.
No matter where you go, there you are.
