Spoiler stuck

Post by goron59 » Wed Dec 28, 2011 11:01 am

Greetings folks!

Just had a first long run out with my R8 to visit family and the first thing my brother did when sitting in the car (parked for about an hour) was push the spoiler button.

It went up, but didn't come down again. The light on the switch stays on, even after switching off/on ignition.
The next morning, again, the spoiler was up and stayed up, but after driving for a bit and then stopping at lights, it went down and has been fine ever since.

Is this normal?

I thought perhaps it only operates properly when the engine is running/warm, but just a thought.

From memory I think you have to hold the button down for a few seconds to make it fall again. Most likely with the ignition on too.

Failing that like you say as soon as you go above 50, then drop below 20 it will fall automatically, however cold the engine is.

Need some more pics of your car! What are your plans for it, maybe start a new thread?

Thanks.

I'll have to upload a few pics later.

Plans for car? Well, have a lot of fun :) A weekend or two to North Wales, at least one up in the Highlands, a two-week tour around the Alps, Austrian Lakes... and hopefully some track time.

I'm a bit of a track newbie (only had some time in a TT V6, S5 and RS4 at Silverstone and a Nissan 370Z and Dunsfold.

Oh, and I plan a trip to Le Mans next year too.

Going to be a great year :)

Hi Goron,

I've seen this a couple of times on my V10 coupe. It happens when the car is stationary and the spoiler is manually activated and won't go back down. The way it resets is to drive above 66mph (the activation speed) then the next time your speed drops below 20mph (the deactivation speed) the spoiler should go back down automatically.

Not sure why this feature is present - maybe a maintenance aid for when it's in the Shop.
