R8 Owners, what is the ownership experience like?

Post by P_G » Wed Sep 03, 2008 10:13 am

A question for your R8 owners now that you have had them for a while, what is it like to own and drive.

I ask because a colleague at work is in the enviable position of considering a good number of cars and an R8 is one of them. His ideal is an LP560-4, however given the new Lambo's price over the old Gallardo without options it is on the high side.

Alternatives are perhaps a DB9 or newer version AMV8, XKRR, he's not interested in Ferrari or Porsche having driven both or something from a smaller sports car manufacturer. I have pointed him in the direction of a used R8 and he has asked what they are like to own, so over to your guys. What do you think?

I had one for about 6 weeks. I ordered the wrong spec. Tried to get Audi to assist me in changing the car eg PX against one of their dealership showroom cars with no joy. Sold the car at a profit and left it at that.

Thanks tanoga, I thought all the R8 owners had left! So in the six weeks, what was it like?

No speakers behind the driver on the standard sound system and the foot rest was to close to the clutch pedal for my liking. I couldn't fully enjoy the car with my foot catching on the clutch pedal. I am sure I would have enjoyed it had it been the auto version, we'll never know though for sure.
No regrets though, I tried it........didn't like it.......moved on.

Hmm, thanks for that. I have advised to get a car with the B&O system in for the reasons you have described regarding speaker positions, interesting comment on the rest / clutch pedal proximity.

What are you driving now?

R8 - Fab car, had mine since March 08 and done 27,000 miles so far.

Hasn't been without it's problems and ended up at Audi UK TSC for 5 weeks being sorted. Almost all glitches sorted now

27k miles in 7 months, that's going some!! It's going to depreciate anyway, might as well get maximum pleasure!
