£10,000 Deposit NOW for an R8
Dealer phoned yesterday. Needs £10,000 deposit by friday for my R8, or that's it - it will only go to those that stump up the money NOW apparently.
All went to a Jolly to Germany on Fraiday to look at a Pre-Production R8. They could not touch it, as there were apparently 6000 dealers there.
The bottom line is that There will be only 2000 cars made worldwide. I guess that means that the UK will get about 100?
The base price is £75,000 for the 4.2 and with options (including V10 engine) its about £95,000 !!!
Now not sure what to do - a hell of a lot of money over a B7 for 2 less seats
Any Ideas?

2000 for the first year that is.....
It is a big deposit, but the delivery of the first vehicles is perhaps a little more than 6-8 months away(for the V8 version) so the lost opportunity cost on the money is minimal. The car will be worth it in MHO... My deposit is already in- but my dealer in Canada was quite a bit more reasonable.

I placed my deposit in October last year - 2K. Having seen the pictures of the back end on Pistonheads (big red band), I decided to ask my dealer what the score was - was this the finished article. I didn't like the back end - reminds me of a Honda. He assured me that the one he saw at the "dealer launch" didn't have this red band, and the car looked fantastic. Then went on to say that the price would be...quote...
"4.2 will be £70-75,000 and the 5.2 V10 £100-110,000".
I was interested in the V10, but have to say at that money, there's a pretty big shop to browse. A 2 year old F430 or Gallardo which has already suffered depreciation, or a brand new 977turbo looks awfully appealing.
I'm going to wait until the 4.2 is released, and have a look, but it will need to be something really special for me not to cancel my order.
Cheers, Mark

I spoke to my dealer this morning on the back of your post, they have had no instruction to increase the deposit, (still at £1500 as far as they know) nor have they got any further clarification on production numbers or prices other than to say they thought the v8 was about 70 and the V10 about 90......May i pass on the message from my dealer about this........phone Audi UK and get it from the horses mouth...sounds like the dealer is at his work, unless you are actually spec'ing and ordering the car....

Is it possible to spec car even without dealer knowing allocation?simple1 wrote:jonp wrote:Dealer phoned yesterday. Needs £10,000 deposit by friday for my R8, or that's it - it will only go to those that stump up the money NOW apparently.

RE: Re: £10,000 Deposit NOW for an R8
I would not think so, hence my question. Unusual to increase a deposit to that level when all you are really doing is 'buying' a place on a list. I would have thought it high even after placing a physical order, but then I dont run Audi........
I'm struggling to understand the pricing. At £95k the V10 is looking ok if it is carrying 550PS but if it is the 460-480PS being talked about then it is expensive both period and compared with the V8.
For me, the V8 is enough but I can't understand why I should pay £20-25k more than an RS4 saloon. I'm in there at £65k (basic 911 money) but not at £75-80k specced up.

I was looking at the R8 as a generic replacement for my 996 turbo, which will be 6 years old in 2008, at 90K it looks good value compared to say a 997 turbo, fully spec'd at £109k. Would love to be a fly o the wall at the ring.. to see how well the car behaves with 550 bhp.... I can't see Audi pitching a 480 bhp car into the 997 turbo price market with a matched power output... the V10 in Lambo spec should be good for 500+ so why not use it in the R8?

Hi guys,
I chipped in my £1,500 at the beginning of July 07, I had the opportunity to put down a deposit a year or so ago - stupidly I didnt as I wasnt overly impressed by the pictures - but once you see the car in the metal it's a whole differant story. Now I have the frustration of waiting 2yrs for my car to arrive - but basically £1,500 to put my name on the list, then a further £8,500 balance to be paid when doing final spec of the car - approx 4mths before delivery.
I happend to catch the end of a video last night with the R8 having a tussle with the new Porsche GT3 ......... not only did the R8 keep up with it, but it passed and pulled away from the GT3 !!!
I guess waiting two years for delivery will have two benefits
1. it gives me a further 2yrs to play with my RS4 avant
2. it will give me time to see what Porsche's reply to the R8 is going to be - they need to do something otherwise there going to loose a chunk of clients
